Minelab Equinox 800 is an excellent all-terrain device of an expert level. While it provides the user with a bunch of different cool features and benefits, it is still more or less easy to use, especially if you have already had your hands on any other device by Minelab. Yet, to assess whether you really want to purchase this model for yourself, find out more about its specs.
Tech specs of this model are truly impressive. They include five frequencies, six search modes (Beach, Park, Field, Gold, plus two fully customizable modes), and a DD coil in the kit. In addition to six search modes, the machine has pinpoint mode added, which is a very handy feature for any user.
Moreover, you get adjustable ground balance, adjustable tones, and collapsible shaft. The whole thing is rather lightweight – only 3 lbs.
If you are not yet impressed enough, just wait for it. The machine applies multi-frequency technology to save your time and efforts. Using this feature, you can comb the location with several frequencies at the same time, without the need to switch them back and forth and check the same spot again and again. Marvelous.
Another practical thing is gold search mode, totally adapted to spot small golden objects. You can hunt for both modern jewelry and gold dust. Regulated ground balance and noise cancellation will make your search more productive. Add wireless headphones compatibility, and you get an outstanding machine!
Pros and Cons
The obvious advantages include multi-frequency, powerful rechargeable battery, and the device being waterproof to the depth of up to 10 feet.
Having a waterproof device is generally a win, because you can ignore wet weather, dew, fog, rain, and even search on wet soil and in shallow waters. It would have been surprising if an expert level machine by Minelab would not have been water isolated.
Plus, there are several compatible search coils available for purchase. You can make your search even more customized with additional coils.
Now, less obvious disadvantage is that due to numerous features and manual settings, it will be hard to use for detectorists with low to middle level of experience.
Another drawback that may become decisive for some potential buyers is the price. This product is kinda very cool, and therefore it costs more than average metal detector in the same niche. However, if you want all those features, maybe it makes sense to pay more for quality and seamless performance.
Minelab Equinox 800 is a more advanced model of the Equinox series. If you are not sure whether you want it, maybe it makes sense to check another product by Minelab.
